YARD WASTE

The Solid Waste/Recycling Bureau recycles most types of yard waste. Use this page to find out how to recycle grass , leaves , and brush & branches .

The zones designated for recycling will be used for brush and leaf collection services provided as indicated by calendar schedule. Please call the Marlboro Road Maintenance Bureau at 732-972-8866 for brush pickup so that personnel can be utilized most effectively.

Rutgers University scientists recommend that the best time to trim trees, without damaging them, is when the sap is not flowing during the months of November through February. Following their advice will make it easier to schedule pickups efficiently. Return To Menu

GRASS

Grass has been banned from the County Landfill. It will not be picked up with your garbage. However, grass may be:

    • Cut and left
    • Composted
    • Brought to a compost center
    • Brought to the county drop-off center
    • Taken by a lawn service or your garbage contractor, separately from your garbage (Call them to make arrangements)

LEAVES

Leaves must be recycled. From October through December (or the first snowfall in December), leaves may be left in piles at curbside (no plastic bags). In April, during the scheduled Leaf Collection, leaves may be left in piles at curbside (no plastic bags). Trucks will be in designated zones continuously with vacuum sweepers. For safety reasons, however, please be sure that piles of leaves are kept within a couple of feet of the sidewalk. Also, grass, branches and pine cones must not be disposed of with leaves.

RAKING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Do not rake leaves to the curb just prior to your scheduled collection weekend. Instead, have raking completed by the middle weekend in order to allow adequate time for collection and help eliminate call-backs.
  2. Rake leaves to gutter line, not to the middle of the street. Leaves raked to the middle of the street will cause serious traffic hazards.
  3. Remove all brush, branches, yard waste, and garbage.
  4. Do not block storm water catch basins with leaves.

WARNING: Parking on a pile of leaves may risk a fire.

  • Branches over 1" in diameter should be placed neatly and separately at the curb (ready for chipping) with the cut ends facing in the same direction.
