Groundwater Testing
As
required by ordinance, there must be a two-foot separation between
the water table (level of water in the ground) at the BOTTOM
of a house or addition's lowest footing at the time the footing
is poured. Prior to the pouring of the footing, the contractor
is required to dig or bore a three feet deep test hole below
the bottom of the footing level. To allow for seepage in
low permeability soil, the hole is required to remain at least
overnight. The Township inspector checks the level of the
water versus the footing bottom both when the hole is dug and
the day after. There is a $120 fee to cover the Township's
costs for this service. If you are building a new home
a groundwater test is required. Residents who may be building
additions to previously developed properties should check with
the Engineering Department to determine if they need a water
test.
