Leaf collection update from DPW
Due to severe winter weather which began during the remaining weeks of fall leaf collection, the Department of Public Works continues to remove leaves from municipal roadways. At this time, we have completed the first leaf pick-up for all zones and have completed the second and final 2013 leaf collection for zones 2, 4, and 5.
Rain and temperatures below freezing make it a significant challenge to remove leaves. While industrial leaf vacuums are generally effective in removing leaves during October and in early November, they are ineffective once winter-type weather has affected our area. Under winter-like conditions, leaf pickup is accomplished using construction loaders.
Please know that we are employing all available Township resources including outside contractors in this effort. Work is currently ongoing in zone 3 with zone 6 starting Monday, January 13th. Zones 1, 7 and 8 will follow, weather permitting, until leaf collection is completed.
On behalf of the Department of Public Works and the Township, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience during this time. If you have any questions, please contact the Department at 732 536-0188.
