HORNIK PRESERVES 30 ACRES OF
OPEN SPACE
Township Officials Dedicate Tennent Road Parcel
MARLBORO – Today, Mayor Jonathan Hornik and Council President and Open Space Committee Liaison Randi Marder, along with members of the Township Open Space,
Agricultural Advisory and Shade Tree Committees formally recognized and marked the
preservation of 30 acres of land for open space and recreation. The Township recently
acquired approximately 30 acres of open space on Tennent Road for $250,000.

“For less than $9,000 per acre, the Township has preserved 30 acres of undeveloped
property for recreation and open space,” said Hornik. “This is a big win for the taxpayers
of Marlboro.”
In a Township Open Space Preservation Committee evaluation report transmitted to the
Mayor and Council earlier in the year, Committee Chairperson Shital Rajan indicated “The property scored very high on our evaluation criteria…it is very suitable for natural
trails and passive recreation.”
The parcel is adjacent to the Morganville First Aid Squad, existing Township open space
and Water Utility facilities. Once the site of an active farm, the land is now heavily
wooded. The site had previously been listed for sale for potential development of up to 4
residential units.
“Our Open Space Preservation Committee has been invaluable in helping identify
opportunities for the preservation of open space”, added Council President Randi Marder. “As Council liaison to the committee, we are fortunate to have such an active and
passionate group of resident volunteers committed to this important cause.”
“We have protected yet another 30 acres from residential development,” said Hornik.
This makes fiscal sense, and preserves the quality of life that we enjoy as Marlboro residents.”
