Dear Resident,

Today, Governor Murphy held a press conference to make important announcements that included updates to current COVID-19 restrictions.   As vaccinations increase and hospitalizations continue to trend downward the following restrictions are relaxed effective May 10, 2021

  • 50% of maximum capacity up to 250 individuals for private catering, proms and weddings, memorial services, political events, funerals, performances.
  • Dance floors at closed and closely supervised events such as proms and weddings can resume as long as masking and social distancing is in effect.   Dancing continues to be prohibited at bars, nightclubs, etc.
  • Indoor religious events remain at 50% of capacity with no maximum number.

OUTDOOR GATHERINGS

  • Increased to 500 with an expectation to greatly increase before Memorial Day.
  • The definition of ‘large venue’ has been reduced to 1000 or more fixed seats and capacity increases to 50% with 6 feet of distance between seated groups.
  • Outdoor Amusement Businesses (carnivals and fairs) will be at 50% capacity to align with other amusement businesses.

UPDATES EXPECTED

  • CDC is currently reviewing guidelines and NJ will be prepared to relax guidelines accordingly should CDC move that direction.
  • Prom and graduation guidance will be issued later today by the NJ Department of Education.
  • Day and overnight camp guidance will be issued within the next few days.

New Jersey residents are still encouraged to engage in outdoor activities wherever possible.  The policy on outdoor masking remains the same. If you cannot socially distance outside, wear your mask.  Inside, masks remain required.  Indoor dining remains at 50% capacity.
