Coronavirus Update #40

Dear Resident,

I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.

Testing and Stats – New Jersey reported new daily positive test results 1of 509 for a statewide total of 160,918. Monmouth County has 8,301 cases with 459 in Marlboro. New Jersey is, per-capita, 1st in patients hospitalized, 4th in deaths per day and 14th in new daily cases. We, however, now lead the country in the numbers of daily testing per capita; in one week we went from 4th to 1st. I remind all residents that three are over 200 testing sites throughout the state and it is important for everyone to get tested.

In the last week, Governor Murphy has announced that the following will be able to open as restrictions are lifted:

On June 15 childcare centers will be allowed to reopen their doors to all clients, restaurants can open their doors to outdoor dining, non-essential retail stores can allow customers inside.

Beginning June 22 some organized sports activities will be allowed to resume if they are held outside and no contact drills or activities are permitted. Also on June 22 barbershops and salons will be able to open.

In all cases, work that can be done from home should continue to be done from home. Clinically high-risk individuals who can stay at home should continue to do so. All residents and businesses should follow state and federal safeguarding guidelines: wash hands; wear masks in public; respect social distancing; minimize gatherings; disinfect workplace and businesses; and no mass gatherings.

State guidance for the openings will be available on the state website www.covid19.nj.gov . The article with guidelines as released for ‘The Road Back’ is detailed HERE.

In my last update, I announced that I signed Executive Order 2020-5 allowing for Marlboro fitness centers to apply for a permit to hold outdoor classes in accordance with Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 148.

As we prepare for restaurants to open for outdoor dining, I am pleased to announce that we will be issuing temporary use permits to allow those restaurants that do not currently have outdoor dining to serve customers in an outdoor space.

We are committed to help our businesses recover and want to ensure it is done in a manner that is safe and responsible manner to protect business owners and customers. If you own a fitness center or a restaurant and are interested in applying, please email the Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator at This email address is being protected from spambots. It has come to my attention that park areas are littered with bottles, food remains and garbage. Littering is never acceptable and certainly not at this time when it means that someone else has to clean up potentially contaminated items. Every park in Marlboro has trash cans in or near it. Please use them or bring your trash home. We ask that you include the importance of not littering in the conversations with your families about washing your hands, face coverings and social distancing.

A traffic update that tomorrow, June 2, the entrance to Costco from Texas Road will be CLOSED for most of the day as NJNG makes connections to Aldi’s and Chick-Fil-A. Entrance to the Costco shopping center will be from Route 9 only.

Lastly, a reminder that we are excited to welcome back the Marlboro Farmers Market this Sunday from 9am – 2pm. The Market is located at 444 Route 520, just west of Route 79. This weekend, our vendors will be Navtan Farms, Pickle-licious, Bakers Bounty, La Piazza gelato, From the Garden honey, and Cherry Grove cheese and meats. Plans and procedures are in place to ensure the safety of our vendors and customers. Please follow the Facebook page @MarlboroFarmersMarket for more.

Have a good week.

Mayor Jon Hornik
