Coronavirus Update #6

March 12, 2020

Dear Resident,

The Township continues to actively monitor the evolving novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreaks. As has been widely reported, there are now several confirmed cases in New Jersey, and, as expected, more “presumptive” cases are being announced, especially as testing and awareness become more widespread.

Today, Governor Murphy recommended that all New Jersey events with more than 250 attendees be cancelled including sporting events, concerts and parades. That being said, residents at higher risk of getting very sick from this illness, including older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease, should take additional steps to avoid crowds and travel, and stay home as much as possible.

Yesterday, both the Superintendent of Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD), Charles Sampson, and Superintendent of Marlboro K-8 Districts released ‘COVID-19 Updates’ to the parents/guardians of district students. Both districts’ letters focus on prevention and detailed their plan should the coronavirus impact student education. The Commissioner of Education, with permission from Governor Murphy, announced that schools will be able to utilize remote learning ONLY in the event the Board of Health directs them to close due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The FRHSD letter can be found HERE. The Marlboro School District letter is HERE.

We remind you to practice good hygiene, keep space between ourselves and others and limit exposure to those who are sick. The State COVID hotline is monitored 24/7 and can be reached by calling 888-222-1222. If you are calling from out of state or using an out of state cellphone, call 800-962-1253. My prior letters detailing prevention and important website and phone numbers are linked below and on the Town website alert scroll.

We, along with the school districts, will continue to monitor the situation and our preparedness efforts and will provide additional updates as they become available.
