HIGH WIND WARNING ISSUED FOR OUR AREA

Dear Resident,

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for our area tomorrow, Monday, April 13 from 6:00 am until 7:00 pm. South winds are expected to be 30-40 MPH with gusts up to 60 MPH. Thunderstorms that could result in even stronger wind gusts are possible. Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and widespread power outages can occur.

The Mayor’s office and Marlboro OEM have been in contact with JCP&L and they have confirmed that it is prepared to activate its storm response and Incident Command System plans. In the event outages occur due to severe weather, residents should report their outage allowing JCP&L to isolate and outages and perform staged restorations as safely and quickly as possible. Report an outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com , or by texting out to 544487.

Assume all downed wires are alive and dangerous and call the Marlboro Division of Police at 732-536-0100 to report. In case of emergencies, dial 911.
Please take a moment today and prepare should a power outage occur:

  • Fill plastic freezer bags with water or use water bottles and place in the freezer. The ice can be used to extend the time that refrigerated food is kept safe during an outage.
  • Charge all personal electronic devices.
  • Secure or store any loose items such as garbage cans, flower pots, lawn ornaments, etc. as they can become dangerous projectiles in high winds.
  • We ask residents to assist us in keeping sewer drains on or near your property clear and free from leaves, trash and other debris. Clean drains allow water to run freely and help to prevent flooding.
  • If you use a portable generator, review safety guidelines HERE.
  • Review the steps to plan and prepare for an outage at https://www.ready.gov/power-outages

The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor the weather. We will update you as needed. To all those celebrating, we wish you a Happy Easter. Stay safe.

Mayor Jon Hornik
