Thursday Email Update

Please note that to protect residents and employees, all Town Hall Municipal Offices will continue to be closed to the public until further notice. However, every Department is staffed and can be reached by phone or email. Forms, department phones numbers and emails can be found on the website home page and many transactions can be done on line. Mayor Hornik continues to send out updates almost daily via email as well as posting to the town official Facebook page at @marlborotownship. Prior communications remain on the ‘alerts and actions’ scroll on the website. Township schedule updates and notices are linked to ‘Municipal Offices closed to public…’ near the top of the website homepage.

All Township programs and meetings are cancelled through April 17. It is expected that this will be extended. Please check the Township website calendar for updates.
• Also cancelled is the Monmouth County Paper shredding scheduled to be held in the Municipal Complex this Saturday, April 4.

The Western Monmouth County Sewer Authority (WMUA) is seeing an increased amount of non-flushable products, oil and grease in the sewer system. Please note that paper towels, wipes, trash and hygiene products should be thrown in the trash and not flushed. Grease and fats should not be poured down your sink drain or flushed, but should be placed into a container, allowed to solidify and disposed of in the garbage poured down your sink. These materials disrupt sewer service by creating sewer line blockages.

Facebook Live Video - Mayor Jon Hornik will be holding his second live video on Sunday, April 5 at 4:00pm. Please submit questions to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than 5pm Saturday, enter ‘FB Question’ in the subject line and included your name and address in the body of the email (this will not be shared with the public). Mayor Hornik will reply to as many questions as time permits. In order to inform residents without access to social media, the text of the video will be shared via email.

Recycling and Curbside Collections

  • BAGGED ONLY leaf collection is underway by zone. Leaves piled curbside or brush will NOT be collected. Those placing Bagged leaves should be placed on your property and not the street to prevent flooding and to keep the streets clear for pedestrians. Landscapers or residents placing debris for collection in an unauthorized manner shall be required to remove the waste from the public right of way.
  •  The collection schedule is detailed in the Recycling Calendar mailed to your home and here. Any changes to service relative to the state of emergency will be communicated through normal channels.
  • Township Recycle Yard - The yard will be opened for cardboard, comingled paper, electronics, brush and leaves only. No bulk trash items of any kind will be accepted. In order to ensure the safety of our employees and adhere to the CDC‘s requirement of “social distancing”, Township staff will not be able to assist you with placing your items in any of our containers, and we may need to limit the amount of cars in the site at one time. Recycling guidelines and hours can be found on page 10 of the Recycling Calendar and HERE.
  • Township Bulk Curbside Pickup – Spring Curbside Bulk collection will happen but it will be delayed. Due to the COVID-19 State of Emergency, the Township’s bulk trash contractor is unable to perform the service beginning in April as scheduled. The pick-up will be rescheduled and communicated via email, posted on the website and sent via SWIFT 911 once the State of Emergency is lifted and / or distancing restrictions are relaxed.

Notice to Bidders/Vendors: In an effort to maintain the safety and health of all persons, the procedures for the receipt of all bid packages will be as detailed HERE under further notice.

Hydrant Flushing - In light of the State of Emergency and in lieu of the normal Spring Hydrant Flushing Program, the MTWUD will be performing safety tests on each of the hydrants within the system to ensure that the hydrants are working properly and all maintenance related issues are recorded. During this work there will be no effect on pressure or water quality to the drinking water. The work is expect to last approximately 4 weeks with completion on/or about mid-May. Should you have any questions or concerns, please call (732) 536 – 0188.

Restaurants and Grocery Stores - As we head to the weekend many of our families would have been enjoying a visit to one or more of our numerous restaurants or ordering takeout. Although restaurants are closed for seating, a wide variety are providing takeout and delivery. Friday night pizza, Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning bagels may add much-needed variety and normalcy to your family meals. The links to the restaurants and grocery stores are posted on the town website homepage and social media, and is updated on a regular basis so check back often. We suggest calling the restaurant ahead or ordering on line to ensure that there have been no schedule changes and to limit your social contact. Review options HERE.

Zoom Setup Assistance - Marlboro’s Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) has offered to remotely help anyone who would like to use ZOOM on their home computer, laptop, or phone, but does not know how to download or install the ZOOM app. ZOOM is an effective and safe way for people to stay connected during the home containment period because it allows you to see and communicate with your friends, neighbors, and family. If you would like one of our TAC teens to call you and help set this up, please e-mail Deputy Mayor Larry Rosen at This email address is being protected from spambots.
