INTERSECTION OF ROUTE 520 AND TENNENT ROAD
In June 2019, we announced that the State DOT would be commencing work at the intersection of 520 and Tennent Road. This project was years in planning as a joint effort between Mayor Hornik’s office, Township Engineering and Police Traffic and Safety along with the County of Monmouth and NJ DOT. Although both roadways are in Marlboro Township, they are Monmouth County Roads maintained by the County. However, due to their proximity to State Highway Route 18, they fall under State jurisdiction. You can read the notice with planned improvements HERE. Last night, Marlboro Police Traffic & Safety put the following message on social media:

The State DOT traffic signals were changed last week and put into operation immediately. Normally the striping and signage is put into place before this happens. We have been informed this wasn’t the case. We (The Mayor’s Office, Engineering and Police Department) have been in contact with State DOT to find out why all the aspects of this intersection adjustment were not done simultaneously and there has been more confusion than a remedy for the situation. This is an ongoing process and we are asking our residents to bear with us as we are working around the clock to make things right.

This morning we were informed that the Stat DOT contractor lights will be bagging the lights today. Striping and signage will take place prior to the left-turn signal lights being operational. We apologize for the confusion. Thank you to Police and engineering for working with State DOT to quickly address this situation. Questions should be directed to Traffic & Safety at 732-536-0304.
