Weekend Update –Cinco de Mayo
Dear Resident,
We have a busy weekend in Town with multiple events at the Municipal Complex and the Recreation Center. Paper shredding and Big Rig Rally (Touch a Truck) will both be held on Saturday and Walk 4 Friends (fundraising event) on Sunday. Marlboro Police will be on site to direct traffic flow and parking. Please see below for details.
I also want to remind residents that as the weather warms, the sun shines and we enjoy our many parks and recreation areas, please utilize the trash receptacles for garbage and to clean up after your dog. Additionally, baby deer (fawn) are born during May and can be found on lawns. They are not abandoned. See the messages from animal control under ‘Public Safety’ below.
Most of you will have heard about the FRHSD removing ‘courtesy busing’ for students who live within than 2.5 miles from the high school. While the damaging impact of the state aid cuts to the school district has been looming for some time now we are very concerned with the decision by the school district and with the traffic and safety ramifications for our children. In short we believe it's a mistake. My administration is working directly with the Freehold Regional High School administration to review possible solutions to this issue for Marlboro residents affected by this cancellation of an essential service. We ask Marlboro residents to be patient as we work through solutions for this problem.

NOTICES
Spring Clean-Up/Bulk Pick-up and Brush collection is underway by zone. Please adhere to the regulations to ensure safety for pedestrians, vehicles and the workers collecting the bulk pickup. We remind everyone that there is no bulk pick up the week following Mother’s Day so the streets are clear for guests. For dates and details see the letter from DPW HERE
PSA – During bulk pickup, it is advisable that you do not leave any items close to the curb or they may be mistaken for bulk collection. Bring bikes, toys, equipment, etc. close to your house or preferably in your garage or backyard.
Second Quarter Property Taxes Due - Second quarter property taxes must be received by Wednesday, May 10th to avoid interest. Note that interest charges on payments made after the grace period are calculated back to the May 1st due date. The Tax Collector’s office will have extended hours on Wednesday, May 10th from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. A 24/7 drop box is located in the vestibule of Town Hall and is available 24/7. All payments left in the drop box by 8:00 pm on May 10th will be credited that day and will not be subject to interest. PUBLIC SAFETY - UPDATE
Messages from the Animal Control Officer
Baby Deer (fawns) will be born during the month of May and finding a fawn on your lawn will not be uncommon. This is perfectly normal. The mother deer has “placed” that baby there because she feels that it is safe. These fawns are not abandoned.
- The fawn should not be handled or approached for any reason. Do not try to feed the fawn or give it water. Up until about 4 weeks of age, the fawn gets everything it needs from its mother. Trying to get it to drink can cause water to get into its lungs and it essentially drowns. The fear of being approached can cause cardiac arrest. The fawn should only be there for a majority of the day.
- Avoid the area where the fawn is and walk your pet on a leash during the time that the fawn is on the property.
- Per New Jersey Fish Wildlife, fawns will not be removed unless the animal is sick or injured such as attacked from a predator. There is no need to call animal control. The fawn will relocate on its own.
- If the fawn is in the same spot for longer than 24 hours or is crying loudly and consistently, there may be an issue. Only in these types of cases should you contact animal control.
Marlboro has many homes either in or adjacent to wooded areas and wildlife is a part of our beautiful town. Thank you for your cooperation. Should there be an issue, Animal Control can be reached at 732-536-0100.
Clean Up After Your Pets – Please clean up after your pet in all public parks, trails and walkways and dispose of properly in an available trash bin or when you return home. Parasites and bacteria can stay in the soil for years and puts other pets and children at risk for exposure and can leak into our water supply. Remember, cleaning up after your dog is not only common courtesy but safer for both you, your pet, our community and it’s the law. We also ask that you respect your neighbors’ care and attention to their lawn and prevent grass/foliage damage due to urine by curbing your dog. Thank you for your cooperation
Public Safety Reminder - By working together, we are making a difference and reducing successful vehicle thefts. Please remember to lock your car doors, take the key fobs inside, remove garage door openers, lock your house doors/windows and set alarms. If you have not yet done so request an ‘I Took the Pledge’ lawn sign and download the ‘Neighbors’ app. Most importantly, if you see anything out of place or suspicious call the police at 732-536-0100. Alarm Registration open for 2023 – As per code all alarm systems are required to be registered annually with the Marlboro Division of Police. Registering your alarm system ensures that the police can get in contact with you should there be an emergency or alarm activation at your home. Renewal or new alarm registration HERE. Big Rig Rally (Touch a Truck) – A hands on experience for all ages. Free, no registration needed. Saturday, May 6 from noon - 2:30. Quiet time for children with sensory sensitivity is from 2-2:30. FLYER

Lifeguard Certification Classes - Summer Job needed? Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or Recertification) available at the Marlboro Swim Club. You do not have to be a swim club member to take the class. Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. First Aid Squads Need You! Give back to your community and learn invaluable life skills. Marlboro and Morganville First Aid Squads offer free EMT certification and driver training to recruits, and active membership also qualifies volunteers for discounts on various Township fees and memberships and an annual contribution towards an individual retirement-type program. Primary Election Vote by Mail (VBM) Ballot – Those who have requested to VBM and are registered as either a Democrat or Republican should have received, or will soon be receiving, their VBM ballot. In NJ you must be registered for a political party (not unaffiliated) to vote in the primary election. The VBM ballot may be mailed in the provided postage paid envelope or placed in the drop box located in the parking lot of Town Hall (or any other Monmouth County drop box). Commuter Parking: The annual renewal process is complete and new registrations are now being accepted. Parking spots are available at Union Hill, Texas Road (Costco) and Cambridge Square (Home Depot) commuter parking lots. Manalapan residents may apply at Cambridge Square (across the street from the Union Hill) or at the Texas Road commuter lot. For non-residents may apply for the Texas Road commuter lot. COVID-19 Ratepayer Measures provide relief to ratepayers experiencing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. The NJ Department of Community Affairs has developed a low income household water assistance program. Please review the letter from the Marlboro Water Utility HERE.
