RE: Coastal Storm/Flood Watch

Dear Resident,

The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management is again tracking a coastal storm system to move into our region beginning late tonight and continuing through Friday with some lingering showers into Saturday.

Heavy showers and possible thunderstorms will arrive after midnight tonight and into the afternoon and evening hours Friday.  Total rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are currently forecast with locally higher amounts possible.  Timing and location of the heaviest rainfall remains uncertain.

The ground is already saturated following the 5 days of rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia. That could lead to roads and grounds experiencing flash floods.  Never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road.  If a road is flooded, turn around.

Brush collection is scheduled to begin Monday.  Please follow the guidelines and do not place brush in the road, but gather at the end of your property near your curb.  Brush in the street prevents the water from flowing to the sewers to drain.  Keep your storm drains clear and unblocked.  More on brush collection HERE.

Fortunately, this storm is not expected to bring high winds. However, should you lose power, report your outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.

Assume all downed wires are alive and dangerous. Report to the Marlboro Division of Police at 732-536-0100 to report.  In case of emergencies, dial 911.

This storm is forecast to pass fairly quickly.  We will update you if it becomes necessary.  Stay safe.

Mayor Jon Hornik
